Vodou is not a game of Pokemon.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, because unfortunately it bears repeating. It is often the same perpetrators who make the mistake and some simply don’t want to listen. However:

Vodou is not a game of Pokemon. The Lwa are not Pokemon cards, and it is not about collecting them all.

Do not assume you will be stronger or better than others because you believe yourself to have more Lwa than they have, as that is not how it works.

Vodou is not a game, full stop. The Lwa are as real as you or me, they are not characters in a TV show. Do not treat them with disrespect.

All too often I see people trying to “collect” spirits. Now in truth this is not so simple. Just because you like a Lwa does not mean that you have that spirit walking with you. Just because your favourite food / colour / perfume (etc) is known to be their favourite also, does not mean they walk with you. Even if you work in an area of that Lwa’s expertise, it does not mean you are automatically their child (although they may be more inclined to listen to you when you pray).

The opposite is also true. You may not have a connection with a Lwa even when it does walk with you. Connections take time. But it helps to establish who you have walking with you if you ever want to progress in Vodou. Then you can decide which Lwa to serve, and learn how to do so properly.

It may be unpopular to point this out, but those who know me know I tell it like it is: to find out which Lwa walk with you and how to serve them, you can’t cut corners or open a book. You have to go straight to the source, to people who have walked the road before you. You have to be taught by your elders. Because in Vodou there are both right ways and wrong ways, there are certain taboos, and there are spirits you don’t want to serve unless you have obtained a certain level of initiation or have the guidance of someone who has. That’s just how it is, and if you want to respect the Lwa, you follow our traditions.

The fact is that you can build the most beautiful altar around, spend lavishly on all the biggest statues and candles and satin tablecloths and so on, and you may still not have the spirit’s attention let alone walk with that Lwa. The practitioner down the road who you’ve looked down on, because all he has is a bare wooden table, a candle and a glass of water, might have astronger connection to the spirits than you do, because he’s put the work in. Serving the Lwa is about more than throwing money at an altar!

In fact if you have not worked to establish your connections, if you do not know who you walk with and exactly how to serve them, spending money on your altar is exactly the same as throwing money away.

And nobody wants to do that, right?

Annual Anaisa Pye Ceremony

JULY 25TH, 2015 @ 3PM

This year is no different, just as every other year, we are excited to announce and give the annual Anaisa Ceremony in honor of the Special Mystery of Love, Joy, Gold and Seduction!  For those of you who don’t already know, Anaisa is the Patroness of our Temple and we all owe her so much!  She is known for her swiftness in assisting those who are devoted to her and her children, for her extremely powerful psychic abilities, and naturally for her powers to induce love and seduce!

As we do every year, we will also be honoring her best friend, Saint Martha the Dominatrix.  She who helps us dominate lovers as well as enemies, friends and foes, alike, this powerful Mystery is well known all over the world for her miracles and her powers.

If you would like to attend the ceremony, we are located in Berlin, NJ.  Please contact us at help@greatestspells.com  and Soley, my Godson, can give you the details.  Please be aware, we are limited to the number of people that can attend due to space constraints.  Also be aware that there will be a required donation to attend, which will go towards covering the costs of the ceremony.

Many ask me how they can be a part of the ceremony even if they can not attend.  We are always happy to make offerings and give gifts to the Lwa on your behalf.  You make a donation and we can do that for you.  You can make a donation  here:

If you owe an offering or gift to either of these two beautiful spirits, now is the time to make sure you have paid off your debts with them.    Ensure that they are willing to help you and work with you in the future.

Lastly, many individuals often ask — Papa, I can’t afford your help, how can I get help from the Spirits still? . . . Here is your answer and solution.  Make an offering to the Spirit, although it won’t be the same as having a spell or ritual done, the Spirits recognize a good heart of faith, hope and charity and are often willing to help as long as we show a sign of our good faith, by making an offering or sacrifice of some sort!

Until Next Time,

Keep the Faith,

Papa Hector

Spiritual Thoughts and Observances by Papa Hector

Lwa, Saints, Spirits, Misterios and Even God are here to guide and direct you. . . not control you. You either take their advice/direction or you don’t . . . . but as a result of your actions are the consequences. They are not here to live your life for you or to make everything a bed of roses all the time, they are here to help you, guide you, direct you but not control all aspects of your life. That is why God gave you free will.

So  many people think that when the Spirits speak, and they tell you what to do, one can pick and choose what to do. They want to pick the parts that they like, or are convenient, comfortable and easy, and not do the parts that they find hard, difficult, require work or effort. If that is the case, then you cannot blame the Spirit for the effects of your choices. For you are the cause of those effects.

You are in the driver’s seat in your life. It is you who controls what you are going to do and when . . . .it is you who makes the decisions. So stop blaming others when things go wrong, when things don’t go your way or don’t work out . . . you set the stage and the tone for what happens, it is no one’s fault but your own.

If you don’t want to change your life, no amount of spiritual work can change it for you. If you don’t want to improve yourself, no spirit can force you to do so. In life, you are dealt a set of cards (like in poker) some you can change out, others you can’t and you just have to deal with them and learn to work with them. Everything is not resolvable or can be made to how you want it, some things just are. Learning to accept this and work with it, is a sign of true spiritual growth . . . .

Many are quick to blame the Houngan/Mambo/Priest when they don’t get what they want or are not living life on cloud 9, but at the end of the day, the Priest can only help you, in the end, as I stated before . . . you are the one who makes the decisions and choices in your life, you are the driver. The Priest can only work with what you give him. If you give him lemons, he makes you lemonade . . . if you give him a limo, he gives you a limo service. . . .

Also. . . . . Priests, Houngans, Mambos, Awos, etc . . . they have lives of their own to lead and their own path to follow, also need to continue on their path of growth and evolution. That means that they cannot be there for you all the time, some things you must deal with on your own, they are not there to be used, abused, harassed and hounded with your issues, as if they have nothing else to do . . . if you really love your priest, you will give him/her time to have his/her own life. Especially since 95% of his/her time is dedicated to helping others. Giving him 5% to himself is the least you can do.

I believe all Spiritual People and people going on to be on the spiritual path should really read the Gospel According to Spiritism. . . . it will give you a firm foundation of Spiritual things, a great understanding and will help you when you go to seek spiritual help and clue you into the reality of what can be done and what cannot.

I have provided a free place where you can download books on Spiritism Here:
